The Durbar Room - Osborne House
Exhibition
At the heart of 'Fit for a Queen' lies an extraordinary assembly of 40 pieces drawn exclusively from Dame Zandra Rhodes' private collection, many never before seen in public, spanning six decades of visionary design and presented for the first time within the historic splendour of the Durbar Room at Osborne House. Curated by Dr Christopher Warleigh-Lack and brought to life through the creative vision of Mark Cornwell, the exhibition offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the full arc of Dame Zandra's genius, from her earliest experiments in print and colour to the iconic pieces that cemented her place as one of the defining forces in twentieth-century fashion.

Two Gala Evenings
'Fit for a Queen' will culminate in a gala evening beneath a grand marquee on the Durbar Lawn at Osborne House, bringing together figures from fashion, conservation and the arts for what will be the final occasion on which Dame Zandra's most celebrated garments are ever worn by human hands, before they embark on their world tour. With proceeds supporting charitable beneficiaries including TUSK, whose ambassadors Bear Grylls and Deborah Meaden lend the evening a compelling breadth of influence, the gala promises to be a moment of genuine cultural significance - a last, luminous farewell to garments that have defined the story of British fashion.
OUR VISION STATEMENT
'Fit for a Queen' began as a celebration of one of the most extraordinary creative figures Britain has produced. It will become something considerably larger.
Our vision is to establish it as Britain's premier recurring international fashion retrospective - a platform that brings the world's greatest designers to one of the country's most remarkable settings, generates significant cultural tourism for one of its most underserved communities, and creates genuine, lasting educational opportunity for the young people who live there.
Through formal partnerships with the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins and the Isle of Wight College, we are committed to placing the next generation of fashion talent at the heart of everything we do.
Osborne House is our home. The Isle of Wight is our community. The fashion and creative industries of the world are our canvas.
